James grew up with a farming background, studying Agriculture at Moreton Morrell before going on to an Honours degree at Harper Adams. From there he worked in farm animal welfare, pioneering welfare changes for farm animals across Europe, long before Dogs & Kisses was ever a thought.
That grounding shows in how the farmhouse runs today. James set up Dogs & Kisses in 2009 and is a Master Trainer with the Guild of Dog Trainers, alongside business interests in a raw dog food company and the veterinary sector, which is largely why every boarding guest eats properly while they're here.
He has owned numerous breeds over the years, from Chihuahuas to Great Danes, and has now more or less devoted his life to his own dogs, nine of them at last count, and counting. Alongside his own family, James sponsors two dog rescues and spends much of his spare time rehabilitating rescue dogs in need of a home, taking on rather more waifs and strays than is strictly sensible.
When he's not surrounded by dogs, James cares for the rest of his menagerie and is a keen horse rider.
